Constraining nitrogen sources to a seagrass-dominated coastal embayment by using an isotope mass balance approach

چکیده
Nitrogen (N) is often the key nutrient limiting primary production in coastal waters. Quantifying sources and sinks of N therefore critical to understanding factors that underpin productivity ecosystems. Constraining nitrogen inputs can be difficult for some terms such as fixation marine exchange a consequence uncertainties associated with scaling stochasticity. To help overcome these issues, we undertook budget incorporating an isotope mass balance constrain large oligotrophic embayment (Western Port, Australia). The total input Western Port was calculated 1400 Mg year−1, which remarkably consistent previous estimates sedimentation rates within system. Catchment inputs, fixation, atmospheric deposition comprised 44, 28, 28 13% respectively. Retention marine-derived equated ~3 ~10% NOx flushed through system from end-member. relatively high contribution compared studies most likely due proportion nutrient-limited intertidal sediments where mediated by seagrasses sediment cyanobacteria.

Food Sources for Ruditapes philippinarum in a Coastal Lagoon Determined by Mass Balance and Stable Isotope Approaches
The relationship between the food demand of a clam population (Ruditapes philippinarum (Adams & Reeve 1850)) and the isotopic contributions of potential food sources (phytoplankton, benthic diatoms, and organic matter derived from the sediment surface, seagrass, and seaweeds) to the clam diet were investigated. In particular, we investigated the manner in which dense patches of clams with high ...
متن کاملCarbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus budgets for a shallow subtropical coastal embayment (Moreton Bay, Australia)
Average annual carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus budgets were constructed for Moreton Bay. Primary production was the dominant source of carbon (by two orders of magnitude), N fixation was the dominant source of nitrogen, and point sources were the dominant source of phosphorus to the bay. About 41% of the nitrogen and 70% of the phosphorus entering Moreton Bay was exported to the ocean, and abo...

A survey of the River Kali in western Uttar Pradesh (India) has been carried out to assess the contribution of point and non-point sources of pollution to the river. The river shows strong seasonal dependence for various constituents and the water quality deteriorates sharply as it flows through Muzaffarnagar city. The important characteristic associated with the pollution of the river is the d...

In order to improve photocatalytic activities of the pure anatase TiO2 under UV and visible light irradiations, a novel and efficient N-doped TiO2 photocatalyst was prepared by sol-gel method. N-doped titania is prepared using the various nitrogen sources such as: triethylamine, N,N,N’,N’-tetramethylethane-1,2-diamine, ethyldiamine, 1,2-phenylenediamine, propanolamine, and...
